10. James Dolan suffers mental lapses whenever he is about to choose players for the team. He passed on guys like Marc Gasol, Samuel Dalembert, and Nene who are known to be tough-minded players and chose to sign Tyson Chandler and gave a big contract. And now he realizes he gave up too much for Carmelo Anthony. The Knicks reserves now mourn – players like Josh Harellson, Jerome Jordan, Steve Novak don’t even have a chance when they try to try out for a Euro League team.
9. They don’t have a true center aside from Chandler. One of my most hated players is Jared Jeffries. He started his career in the NBA as SG/SF and now he is the back up and only center for the Knicks reserves. That’s a big joke.
8. Rookie Iman Shumpert. He thinks he is Kobe Bryant and that’s why he keeps on attempting 15 plus shots a game and yet converting less than 40% of those shots. And in the game against Phoenix, with 6 seconds remaining and the Suns leading by 3, he got the ball, dribbled it out and had no plans in mind. He did not even make a shot before the time expired. Common, Kid. Are you kidding or what?!
7. Shumpert again! He looks confused when playing. When he was still a reserve playing around 20 minutes a game, he was averaging almost 5 assists a game. Now that he is a starter and playing 30 plus minutes, he is averaging 2 assists per game only. That’s odd for starting point guard.
6. The only player sitting on the bench who knows how to play smart basketball is the player who is in street clothes – Baron Davis. The bench looks awful. Mike Bibby, Toney Douglas and I forgot all the others. The bench players would be lucky to score 10 points in the D-League.
5. In the past 2 weeks, Carmelo is just shooting well above 37% from the field saying that his wrist is hurting, and if that’s true, then he should drive the ball more often instead of shooting long range shots. It just doesn’t make sense.
4. Amare just blocked 5 shots in the 15 games that he played this season, when last year he averaged almost 2 blocks a game and he was among the league leaders in blocks. He quit on playing D, relying it all to Tyson Chandler. But the problem is, Chandler is not playing good defense as well.
3. The Offense is so stagnant! Here’s what you will see if you watch a Knicks game: the point guard will dribble down the court, pass it to Carmelo or Amare who will isolate while the other four players are watching them as they take ill advised shots. No ball movement and players are not moving without the ball.
2. Their defense is so ugly, Shoppinas might score a hundred when they matched up with them. In their game against Bobcats, the (very fat) Diaw went 12-15 from the field and a perfect 3-3 from long distance. The team has no concept of defense. Poor defensive switch, bad transition defense, horrible perimeter lockdown, name it, the Knicks have it.
1. And lastly, I’ve been waiting for this moment to let it out– D’Antoni, with all due respect for the things he had done before, is the worst coach in the NBA this season. He keeps on hanging on with his style of game although it is very obvious that the roster that he has right now does not fit his system in any way. He has no concept of defense and that is why he is outcoached night in and night out, he is always trapped with mismatches, and he does not really know how to use centers. He has to go. And when I say he has to go, I mean he has to go NOW.
